Trump labels Greta as troublemaker after her attempt to reach Gaza
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump mocked environmental activist Greta Thunberg after her second unsuccessful attempt to reach Gaza on an aid flotilla, which resulted in her arrest and deportation by Israeli authorities.
Thunberg had joined more than 400 activists trying to sail to the blockaded enclave but was intercepted by the Israeli navy on Friday. Over the weekend, more than 130 activists were deported to Türkiye, while Thunberg was sent to Greece and Slovakia on Monday.
Asked about the Swedish activist, Trump said, “she is a troublemaker.” He added, “She’s no longer into the environment, now she’s into this… She needs to see a doctor. She has an anger management problem,” speaking to journalists in the Oval Office.
Following the arrests, fellow activists and lawyers claimed that Thunberg and others faced “torture” and “harsh treatment” while held in an Israeli desert prison. Authorities in West Jerusalem rejected these allegations, with National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir stating he was “proud” of the strict conditions in which the activists were detained.
Trump and Thunberg have frequently clashed online in recent years, trading barbed comments. In 2019, after Thunberg was named Time’s Person of the Year, Trump mocked her for an “anger management problem,” prompting her to update her Twitter (now X) biography to read: “A teenager working on her anger management problem.”
